Who needs a forehead lift

If the eyebrows or forehead are generally not in the right position or have deteriorated over the years, it makes the person look tired, older, or worn out. Raising the brow with Bx or hyaluronic acid can help temporarily. However, brow lift surgery or forehead lift offer a permanent solution. This procedure can often be combined with a list tightening or upper eyelid correction. The skin is also tightened and thus smoothed.

Patients who are not yet considering an operation can first have the eyebrows performed by injecting wrinkles with hyaluronic acid ) or Bx from Prof. Shafighi. The two methods work in very different ways and are recommended or used by Prof. Shafighi depending on the individual anatomical conditions. Each technique certainly has its advantages.

Since the drooping eyebrows automatically lead to drooping upper eyelids, an optical improvement can be achieved in most cases with the upper eyelid tightening "blepharoplasty". This should first be examined by Prof. Shafighi in Bern. This examines whether the forehead is the cause of the drooping eyelids or whether the skin of the upper eyelid is simply sagging. It is also important to examine the quality of the skin in order to take this into account in the event of an operation.

The forehead lift, also known as the upper facelift , permanently lifts the forehead skin and eyebrows and less the upper eyelids for about 7-10 years. At the same time, the incision can be continued in the temple (temporal lift) and the lateral eyebrows can be emphasized or naturally raised. This leads to a fresher look and more awake appearance.

Methods

There are two different forehead lift techniques: The classic type is done via an open skin incision, on the other hand there is the closed access where only the smallest access incisions are operated. With both types, the muscle-tissue unit is ultimately shifted upwards as an effect-bearing step, namely via a continuous, approx. 4 cm long fine access which is hidden in the hairline with or through several very small access incisions.

Open method: With the open method of the forehead lift, a distinction is made from the classic, the minimal solution with the direct brow lift. Excess skin is removed just above the eyebrow. The scar comes to lie just above the eyebrow so that it is barely visible. With the classic open forehead lift, the scalp is incised in the area of the temples using a 4 cm incision. Depending on the forehead lift, the skin is either separated from the underlying tissue, such as muscles, or this is also lifted. The skin and any raised tissue is then tightened. Moving the forehead skin raises the eyebrows as well as tightening the forehead. The resulting excess skin is removed.

To tighten the forehead and eyebrows, simply removing the skin is often enough. The advantage is that the nerves under the forehead remain intact; these can only be interrupted if muscles and tissue are also sharply removed. The result is a numb feeling in these areas, which are sensitively supplied by the corresponding nerves. This risk is a small disadvantage of a deep lift of the forehead, compared to the advantageous improved lifting itself, because if the operation is deeper, a deep wrinkle that is vertical (straight instead of the usual transverse forehead wrinkles) can be corrected and smoothed. A superficial forehead lift might not have enough effect here.

Closed method: The closed method of the forehead lift is done endoscopically, whereby the instrument (endoscope) is inserted through very fine incisions in the hairy scalp or the temples. With this type of forehead lift, you can follow the course of the operation on a monitor using a special optical device (camera). In this way, the skin, muscles and tissues are lifted and released from the nerve cords, which remain undamaged with this method of forehead lifting. The raised or lifted tissue is then attached to make it sustainable.
